Seepage runs on June 2, July 21, September 8 – a request to pause your irrigation for the day

We will be performing the first of three seepage runs on the irrigation canal on June 2 for the TVPI efficiency study. We are requesting that users pause their water withdrawals from the ditch from 8 AM to 5 PM. Please reach out to me directly if this is not possible for your crops. Subsequent dates are July 21 and September 8. You will receive a postcard in the mail with these dates as a reminder.

Seepage runs help us measure how much water is seeping from the ditch. They also tell us which segments of the ditch lose the most water. To do this, we use a manual flow meter to measure water flow at different points along the ditch. The changes in flow between our measurement points will tell us the seepage losses. We will take 10 measurements over the course of the day. By pausing your use, you will help us improve the reliability of our calculations and measurements.

The seepage runs are part of our broader study to understand the water budget of the ditch. We will be providing a memo at the end of June that will include a summary of activities and progress from phase 1, an overview of our phase 2 study plan, our well monitoring activities, and a summary of comments and concerns from March 8. Thank you for your participation.
